Ecchu Yatsuo Hikiyama (float) Festival

A showcase of the sophisticated culture of the townspeople in the Edo Era
The townspeople's culture in Ecchu(presently Toyama) reached its height during the Edo Era when Yatsuo was a prosperous trading center in the Toyama Domain.
This festival is a reminder of the prosperity of those days and is passed down to this day.
Six richly decorated floats are pulled by young men dressed in identical Happi coats with a graceful accompaniment of Samisen, flute, and drums. At night thousands of lanterns illuminate the floats brilliantly, which presents a grand spectacle, and the festival reaches its climax.
